Conference: Eaux-Bonnes and Doctor Darralde

The beginning of the 19th century saw an increase in the activity of the resort of Eaux-Bonnes and the middle of the century saw a real thermal fever. Thermalism and Pyreneanism are the factors of this exceptional craze. The resort is going to take on the appearance of a water city associating health centres and holiday resorts: in the upper part of the town, the thermal baths district, in the centre, the hotels and the garden, meeting place of the curists, and below, the casino, place of rejoicing. The thermal baths, the chapel, the military hospital and the Government House are surrounded by numerous promenades. The English garden laid out in the centre of the resort in 1841 was embellished in 1861: it became the Jardin Darralde and was named after the famous doctor, in accordance with the wishes of his benefactress, Empress Eugén
