Les rencontres d'Orion - Jean-Baptiste Maudet

Jean-Baptiste Maudet is a geographer and teaches at the University of Pau. In 2018, his first novel "Matador Yankee" was awarded the Orange Book Prize. His second novel "Des humains sur fond blanc" won the Brise-Lame 2021 prize. His books explore with humour, derision and insolence what could be called the geographical imagination, echoing his work as a professional geographer. Tropicale Tristesse is his third novel. As its name suggests, it is a contemporary variation on ethnologist Claude Lévi-Strauss's famous 'Tristes Tropiques'. It is often funny, sometimes tender, always tender at times, always unexpected. A beautiful piece of writing at the right distance from its subject.
