Come and take part in this conference, chaired by Bernard BERDOU D?AAS, Lawyer, Historian and Author. Today's theme is: "Jeanne III de Navarre, a great figure of the 16th century".
Jeanne III de Navarre, known as Jeanne d?Albret, became Viscountess of Béarn and Queen of Navarre
Navarre on the death of her father Henri II d?Albret. Her life was one of perpetual struggle. Very early on, she spoke out
against her uncle François 1er, who forced her to marry a German prince. She resolutely followed Calvin?s path, establishing a biblically inspired monarchy in Béarn and Navarre, and fought her hardest battles against Spain, Rome and France. Shortly before her death, Jeanne threw herself into the bitter negotiations with Catherine de Médicis concerning the marriage of her son, Prince Henri, to Marguerite de Valois.
