But after many years of neglect, the countryside is attracting renewed interest at a time of economic uncertainty. This return raises hopes as well as challenges, both social and ecological, and challenges the idea of community that has shaped it for so long.
In this unique area of the south-west, a whole network of players is particularly determined to find alternatives to the threat of concrete encroachment, based on collective action.
In response to an acute crisis in access to housing, architects, eco-construction craftsmen, groups defending the living environment and the right to housing, alongside mayors and residents, are defending the idea of the common good and campaigning for regeneration to build a sustainable future.
