Place du Bayaà, 64270 Salies-de-Béarn

Description

Once an open-air well, the basin was covered by a vault in the 19th century, and since then the crypt has been completely filled with salt water. Following the removal of this salt water and major works, the crypt can now be visited. This descent beneath what is now the main square in Salies-de-Béarn allows visitors to enter a space where the play of light highlights a construction that has never before been revealed. It's also an opportunity to explore the history of salt water mining over the last 3,000 years. Booking essential at the Tourist Office.
