Description

Sauveterre-de-Béarn, a medieval town dating back to the 12th century, overlooks the River Gave and offers superb panoramic views of the Pyrenees. Once strongly protected by its ramparts and numerous defensive sites, the village was built around its Romanesque-Gothic church and was the hunting residence of Gaston Fébus, prince of the Pyrenees in the 14th century. The town offered hospitality and food to pilgrims on their way to Santiago de Compostela, in its many convents and hospitals. Legend also has it that Queen Sancie was judged here. Ready to immerse yourself in the history of this small, picturesque town?
