A diplomat and writer, Olivier Poivre d’Arvor is France’s Ambassador for the Oceans and the Poles. It is well known that the future of the poles and the oceans hinges not only on ecological factors but also, and perhaps above all, on political ones. Maritime issues relating to the Strait of Hormuz fall within his remit.
Following a long career in cultural diplomacy, he became French Ambassador to Tunisia and subsequently Special Envoy of the President of the Republic for the United Nations Ocean Conference.
At the same time, he has been actively involved in the cultural sector (Director of France Culture between 2010 and 2015, founder of the Marathon des mots in Toulouse in 2005). He has written numerous books, including non-fiction works (some co-authored with his brother Patrick) and novels.
