Description

Beata Umubyeyi Mairesse, a writer of Rwandan origin, arrived in France in 1994 after surviving the Tutsi genocide. In January 2024, she published her third novel, ‘Le convoi’, the story of her rescue and the investigation she conducted with witnesses: journalists, survivors and humanitarian aid workers. Beata Umubyeyi Mairesse writes to tell the story, to pass it on, to ask questions. Le convoi’ is also about collective memory: how can memory be reappropriated? And how can it be tampered with, falsified or confiscated? Pain, fear, resilience. And faith in the future? These are just some of the issues we will be discussing at this unique event.
