Description
The aim of this participative workcamp is to control the negundo maple (Acer negundo), an invasive exotic tree species. Native to North America, it is gradually colonizing the alluvial woodlands along the banks of the Gave d'Oloron and the wet woodlands around the lakes of Labastide, profoundly disrupting these ecosystems. When maples become dominant in the woodland, the undergrowth flora is considerably impoverished, leading to a drop in biodiversity. You'll be debarking mature trees and cutting/removing young ones to encourage black alder and willow.
Open to all upon reservation.
Equipment provided by CEN Nouvelle-Aquitaine, but bring your own pruning shears or handsaw. Dress for brambles and boots. Bring a picnic.
